What is Laparoscopy

What is Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy is an exploratory surgery performed using a laparoscope. The surgeon explores your abdominal cavity and/or pelvis through one or two keyhole incisions. This is a minimally invasive alternative to laparotomy. It is often used for diagnostic purposes to find problems that imaging tests cannot identify. The surgeon may take a sample of tissue for a biopsy during the test. They can also take care of minor problems during a laparoscopy -- for example, removing growths or blockages they find during the exam.
