There are two sterilization methods for medical instruments used in surgery, namely high temperature sterilization and low temperature sterilization.
1. High-temperature sterilization method is to use high heat to denature microbial proteins to achieve the purpose of killing bacteria. It is the most widely used clinically, and pressure steam sterilization is commonly used, which is suitable for instruments and articles that can withstand high humidity and heat. There is also flash steam sterilization, which can be used for bare instruments and items.
Second, low-temperature sterilization, often using ethylene oxide sterilization. The most clinical application, the advantage is that it does not damage the sterilized items, has strong penetrating power, and has a good effect of killing microorganisms. Low-temperature formaldehyde steam sterilization can be used for medical devices that cannot withstand high temperatures.
